How To Unplug The Charger The Right Way

Unplugging your charger the right way is a small habit that's easy to overlook, but it helps extend the life of the charger, your car's charging port, and keeps everyday charging safer.

For a wall charger, once charging is complete or you want to stop, first unlock charging through the app or a button on the car. Then press the release button on the connector (usually on the handle) and pull it straight out of the car's port gently — no twisting or yanking. Finally, coil the cable neatly and close the car's charging port cover.

For a portable charger, unplug it from the wall outlet first to cut power at the source, then disconnect the connector from the car. Doing it in this order reduces the risk of a power surge or sparking at the connector.

One important rule: never yank the cable, and never disconnect while the status light is still blinking to indicate active charging. Always wait until the indicator shows it's safe to disconnect, to protect both your car and the charging equipment.
