What Percentage Should You Charge Your EV Battery To?

Charging an EV doesn't always need to reach 100% every time — the right battery level depends on how you're using the car, the distance you're driving, and how long it'll be parked. Planning your charging around actual use helps with both convenience and long-term battery care.

Everyday use: charge to around 80–90%. For typical driving — commuting, running errands, or getting around town — charging to about 80–90% is enough for daily use, and there's no need to charge to 100% every time.

Long trips: charge to 90–100% when needed. If you have a long trip planned, charging to 90–100% beforehand extends your range and eases any range anxiety along the way — better suited to charging fully only when necessary, rather than as a routine habit.
